Heart Knowledge vs Head Knowledge
I am very big on Christians knowing the difference between heart knowledge and head knowledge!
There is a difference between knowing about God and knowing God.
Head knowledge is information. Heart knowledge is conviction.
Head knowledge can be argued with, challenged, or replaced by another opinion. But when God reveals truth to your heart through His Word and Spirit, it becomes a settled conviction that no one can easily take away.
A person may know the facts of Scripture and still be unstable. But when those truths move from the mind into the heart, they become part of who we are and how we live.
Consider these scriptures:
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.” Deuteronomy 6:6
God didn’t say merely to have His Word in our minds, but in our hearts.
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11
The psalmist didn’t just read God’s Word; he treasured it inwardly.
“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness…” Romans 10:10
Faith is more than intellectual agreement. It involves the heart.
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…” Ephesians 3:17
Christian growth is an inward work, not merely an accumulation of information.
Many people knew facts about Jesus, but not everyone believed in Him.
The religious leaders knew the Scriptures. They knew the prophecies. Yet many rejected Christ because the truth had not penetrated their hearts.
This reminds me of what Paul wrote:
“Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” 1 Corinthians 8:1
Knowledge alone can produce pride, but truth received in the heart produces humility, faith, obedience, and love.
“Bible study is not to fill our heads with information but to fill our hearts with truth. Information informs us; revelation transforms us.”
“Head knowledge says, ‘I know the verse.’ Heart knowledge says, ‘That verse has changed my life.’
